The year 1972 was extraordinary. Not because of some space research or medical discovery, but due to the creation of one of the greatest shows at Broadway titled “Grease”. Two talented people, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, wrote a love story and composed some fine tunes, and combined them both. The result was a smashing play depicting high school love with a rock’n’roll party that the audience just couldn’t forget.

Today, in the year 2007, “Grease” still continues to entertain the audience. It has the same magic as it had three decades ago. No one could have predicted that the five-hour show, which was opened in Chicago in 1972, could break all records and continue to be shown for decades! However, when “Grease” was shown outside Chicago, it was reduced to two hours.

The noteworthy thing about “Grease” is that it started with amateur actors and a simple garage background. Later, when the movie “Grease” was made, it starred the much adored John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. What mattered was not the star cast, but the acting skills shown by the actors, the fine direction given by Jacobs and Casey, the amazing choreography given by Patricia Birch, the superb lighting and sound arrangement, and the fabulous costumes designed by the creative team of “Grease”.

The show was enough to rock Broadway and attract theatre fans like honey bees. People were eager to know the story of two rebellious teens who fall in love at high school. The two characters are opposite. One is flirtatious while the other is virtuous. When the two meet, the love story takes an unexpected turn.

The music of “Grease” is the biggest attraction. Even a person who does not want to call himself or herself a music buff will take notice. Some of the hit songs that have made the world go crazy are: ‘Greased Lightinin’, ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Could Do’, ‘Beauty School Dropout’, ‘You’re the One That I Want’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘We Go Together’, and ‘Sandy’.

The good news for “Grease” fans is that a new revival of this show is in the making. The direction and choreography is provided by Kathleen Marshall. This new production promises to create frenzy among audience. If “Grease” has the magic, then the new “Grease” will have the seduction!

If you are a trendy individual who believes to keep pace with the changing world, then you won’t miss this Broadway musical that has won seven Tony Awards! “Grease” is unique. “Grease” is a love story. It has the music that you have always wanted to hear. “Grease” is a complete family entertainer.

Go alone or go with your family; bring your lover along, or a bunch of buddies; whatever, but do not miss this exceptional teen love story that harbors a rocking party. If you want to join the party, you will have to act fast and dial a number for booking the tickets. You can also log online.

When a beautiful mermaid decides to rebel against her own father, who is the king of the ocean, all hell breaks loose in her ocean home. The entire ocean community is eager to know what happens at the end. Well, even the community above the ocean is eager to watch “The Little Mermaid” give an outstanding performance, trying to convince the handsome prince and fight the evil witch! This is the story of fulfilling one’s wishes, rebelling against traditions, and exploring new avenues of life.

No wonder, this Disney tryout sold 95,000 seats in Denver and won the hearts of a huge audience in New York. Based on the animated movie of the same name, produced in 1989, this Disney musical is all set to splash the stage of Broadway with sheer excitement.

The songs of “The Little Mermaid” are going to make you sway on your seats. “Kiss the Girl”, “Part of Your World”, and “Under the Sea” are among the best compositions. The last one has grabbed an Academy Award for the title of The Best Original Song! Its lyrics have been penned down by Alan Menke, who has 8 Academy Awards to his credit, and Howard Ashman, who is known by every soul, fond of music! You will also come across some touching lines given by Menken and Glenn Slater.

Francesca Zambello has directed this Disney musical, which is her debut production for Broadway. The star cast has Sierra Bogges and Sean Palmer playing the lead roles of Ariel and Prince Eric, respectively. Besides this, King Triton is played by Norm Lewis; Jetsam is in real life Derrrick Baskin; Urusla is actually Sherie Rene Scott. The roles of Chef Louis and Grimsby have been played by John Treacy Egan and Jonathan Freeman, respectively.

“The Little Mermaid” team already held the world premiere at the Denver Center, in the month of July, 2007. The show was opened on Broadway in August this year and continued till 9th September. If you missed watching the gorgeous Ariel with her gritty ambitions of exploring the world outside the ocean, you have another chance. The show will begin its previews in November this year, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and open officially on the 6th of the following month.

So, if you have still not booked tickets for the show, it’s time you pick up your phone. Dial a number and the ticketing services will arrange for the tickets of your choice show. You can even order the tickets online. However, there is a risk of returning empty-handed or not getting enough tickets, if you attempt to try your luck at the box office. There is a maddening rush already at the windows!

This Disney musical promises to provide complete family entertainment. It’s not just a children’s entertainment stuff. Both the young and old will have a good time watching the musical and humming along the tunes of the splendid songs. “The Little Mermaid” is a must-see!

Smallville’s John Glover has been an expert when it comes to television series, movies and theatrical productions. But more importantly, he is a renowned professional when it comes to Broadway shows, evident in his acquisition of the role of “Man in Chair” on the production of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

“The Drowsy Chaperone,” created by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, is popularly known for being a Tony-award winning production. The world-famous play centers on a vain showgirl, who is about to marry a man she only just met, and her producer, who does not want to lose his precious starlet. The said musical have also garnered countless nomination and has acquired a number of worldwide recognitions and acclamations.

This should be a simple and uncomplicated venture for this theatre buff that has previously starred in a number of Broadway and off-Broadway shows, not to mention films and TV projects. Spending majority of his acting career in theatre, Glover takes this opportunity as an invigorating pep up and affirmation of his successful acting profession.

On the show Smallville, Glover plays Lex Luthor’s father, Lionel Luthor, who is perceived as a deceitful and corrupt but very powerful person. Armed with abundant resources, he utilizes his wealth and influence to entice and lure illicit deals. Although Glover portrays a very challenging and interesting character, his addition to Smallville appears to be a “poles apart” undertaking for this established theater actor. But still his inclusion to the series has given him much diversity and versatility in acting, and has ultimately established his stance on the television loop. Moreover, the series has given him much exposure and opportunity to flaunt his convincingly good acting.

The much-awaited Broadway performance of John Glover will be shown in April this year. In the mean time, fans and spectators can catch a glimpse of Glover’s brilliant acting expertise on Smallville, which airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM on The CW Network.

Watch Sierra Bogges give an outstanding performance as the beautiful mermaid named Ariel, who goes against her father and sets off for a life outside the ocean. Her prince Eric, played by Seam Palmer, is waiting for her lady with the perfect voice! The story also features the evil witch, who makes for some exciting twists and turns in the show and Ariel’s friends down the sea, who leave no stone turned in entertaining the audience.

“The Little Mermaid”, which had its world premiere in July 2007 at the Denver Center, is about to create a wave at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in November this year. For Francesca Zambello, the director of this show, this is an exciting time of her career, as this Disney musical is her debut Broadway production.

“The Little Mermaid” features some prestigious people working behind the scenes, to create a magical outcome. The fine dance moves displayed by Ariel and her friends down in the ocean are the brainchild of choreographer Stephen Mear, who has an Olivier Award to his credit. The striking lighting arrangement that creates an almost real underwater feel is the product of lighting designer Natasha Katz’s creativity. She has a Tony Award to her credit. The book for the musical has been written by Doug Wright, who boasts of winning a Tony Award and Pulitzer Award. The famous “I Am My Own Wife” is also the work of Wright.

The other cast includes Norm Lewis as King Triton, Derrrick Baskin playing the role of Jetsam, Sherie Rene Scott in the character of Urusla, John Treacy Egan playing Chef Louis, and Jonathan Freeman as Grimsby. The costumes have been designed by Tatiana Noginova and the sets have been designed by George Tsypin.

Although, the critics have had their say with regards to the design and direction of this musical, it fails to dampen the spirit of the audience, who is impressed by the storyline, picturization, and fine tunes featured in the musical.

The melodious songs like “Part of Your World”, “Under the Sea”, and “Kiss the Girl” have managed to settle deep in the hearts of the audience. The song “Under the Sea” has already been awarded as the Best Original Song by the Academy Award jury. It has been created by Alan Menken and the eminent Howard Ashman. Alan Menken has been presented with the Academy Award eight times! The musical also features some splendid compositions by Menken and Glenn Slater.

“The Little Mermaid” promises to entertain you like no other show. Come with your family or your friends. You will have a blasting experience of watching the sea creatures come to life on stage! And the mermaid simply can’t help but steal your heart with her beauty, brains, and her melodious voice. The theatre fans have already made a beeline at the box office. If you delay further, you will lose the chance of getting the front row seats, which will make your underwater experience even better.

London’s West End is often considered a mecca for live stage entertainment. Musicals, drama, comedy, tragedy, opera, and just about any other theatrical genre you can think of are all showing in London’s famous entertainment district throughout the year. With a choice of over 100 productions playing at any one time there’s bound to be something that appeals, so why not combine a theatre trip with an overnight stay in a West End hotel?

When you’re looking for ideas as to what to see in the West End, consider all your options carefully. The fantastic musical “We Will Rock You” at the Dominion features the stirring music of rock group ‘Queen’. Alternatively, if you love a good cliff-hanger, the classic “The 39 Steps” should do the trick.

Meanwhile, if reality TV and the search for stars to appear in ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Grease’ and ‘Joseph’ has whetted your appetite – if so, make sure you secure a ticket for one of these un-missable shows. Or for something a little more traditional, opt for a trip to a stirring opera such as Verdi’s ‘Aida’ or maybe a trip to the ballet in Covent Garden.

The beauty of London’s West End, however, is that so much is packed into such a small area: theatres, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and shops are all conveniently located close together – making it a great place to visit for an action-packed break. Also, many restaurants in the West End offer a special value menu for theatre-goers wishing to eat before attending their selected performance, especially in the area around Leicester Square – so remember to take advantage!

Theatre breaks are not just a summer activity, but can be enjoyed all-year round. Moreover, London’s tumult of activity never ceases, so you’ll be able to see the sights whether you visit in the height of summer or the depths of winter. With many historic attractions, such as Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, plus far more besides, you will never be stuck for attractions to appreciate. Plus, many of the other marvellous sights of the country’s capital are just a short journey away from the West End, including London’s newly crowned number one tourist attraction – The London Eye.

And no visit to London would be complete without a spot of shopping! Hot-spots such as Oxford Street, Regents Street, Carnaby Street and Knightsbridge are all ripe for a spot of retail therapy. From chain stores to exclusive designer shops you’ll find them all, but remember to get back to your hotel in plenty of time to change for curtain-up!

Perhaps your ideal theatre break involves adding romance to your theatre break with a stay in an intimate boutique hotel in London with your partner, or maybe you just want to plump for a budget hotel. Either way by booking a hotel in the West End you’ll never be far away from the spotlight.

In the movie “The Wedding Singer,” Drew Barrymore’s fiance comes home with his latest purchase, a CD player. He’s very happy with his accomplishment because, being the materialistic kind of guy that he is, he’s proud of thee fact that it cost about $700. Of course, the joke is on him and the entire audience knows it, because the average price of a CD player today is only a couple of hundred dollars. Still, in 1985, the year in which this movie is set, I’m sure that $700 for a CD player was a good deal.

All electronics, from computers to alarm clocks, are prohibitively expensive when the first come on the market, but they become more affordable as time goes on. Home theatre audio systems have been no different. What was once a luxury item that only people like Donald Trump could afford is now something that tens of thousands of Americans have in their homes. The market has been, and continues to be, flooded with new and cheaper audio systems, especially those of the HTiB, or Home Theatre in a Box, variety. But again, as with all electronics, you get what you pay for, and not all of these systems are created equal. When selecting a home theatre audio system, there are several factors that need to be balanced, including quality, price, and size.

If you’re in college, don’t have a lot of disposable income, but simply must have a home theatre audio system, chances are you’re going to end up with a budget-priced HTiB. These systems, which usually feature small satellite speakers and subwoofers, have an inclination toward spotty sound quality and lack sheer oomph. To quote Napster in The Italian Job, a budget-priced HTiB will never be “loud enough to blow women’s clothes off.” But while Napster might disapprove, such systems have their upsides. They are, as mentioned, affordable for the average individual, and they also tend to have the advantages of being compact and comparatively easy to assemble.

Or perhaps you own a downtown loft in a high rise somewhere and you want a theatre audio system that coordinates with such an ambiance. Some HTiB manufactures offer systems that feature style and are overtly sleek in appearance. A home theatre audio system that goes this route will often have very petite satellite speakers, or perhaps “tallboys,” which are very slender but as much as sixty inches tall. The advantage of a style-centric HTiB, in addition to its elegant appearance, will probably include lots of features and simplicity of set up. The disadvantages? Such a system will probably have limited bass output and limited connectivity options.

Some manufactures are now offering component packages, which are built around separate components. These systems, while forfeiting the traditional HTiB advantage of compactness, usually have the benefits of solid build quality and variety of features. However, as mentioned, such a home theatre audio system will probably be fairly large and clunky, which won’t work if you need to fit it into your studio apartment.

Finally, if you want to go cutting-edge, there are wireless HTiB systems that utilize the very latest in audio technology. These are great if you can afford them, since they save space while maintaining high quality. But as mentioned, they can be extremely expensive and in some cases, you’re better off buying separate components.

Travel to New York City (NYC), and you’re bound to discover more sights and activities than you could have imagined. The city beams with culture and excitement around every corner – so whether you’re a fan of sightseeing, shopping, fine dining, or museum-going, New York has something for you.

But one of the most thrilling aspects of the city is its theatre scene. New York’s theatre district offers musicals, plays and off-Broadway shows in countless venues throughout the city. And because shows are staged year-round, you can find a spectacular production no matter when you visit.

So how do you even begin to making sense of the vast number of productions being staged in NYC? A good place to start is through an online theatre guide. A comprehensive guide will list all the city’s theatres, as well as break down all the productions based on categories of plays, musicals and off-Broadway shows. Once you know what’s on, you’ll want to start enquiring about reviews. Once again, many online theatre guides will include reviews along with information about staging.

If you’re mainly interested in plays, you won’t want to miss the return of Jane Fonda in 33 Variations, Angela Lansbury in Blithe Spirit, or Tony Award-winner August: Osage County. However, if you’d like to experience the city’s superb offering of musicals, you certainly won’t be disappointed with the number of options available to you. From award-winning musicals such as Wicked, and Jersey Boys, to iconic musical productions like South Pacific, there’s something for every theatrical taste in New York City.

Moreover, with musical shows like Mary Poppins and Shrek the Musical, the whole family can enjoy one of the city’s most prominent offerings. And of course, there are the ever famous off-Broadway productions – such as the Blue Man Group, Fuerzabruta, and Stomp – which are sure to thrill.

Don’t forget that holiday shows – such as the Nutcracker – are also staged at appropriate times of the year – so look out for special performances such as these when travelling to New York. And if you’d like to delve into the city’s instrumental performance scene, you’ll also find countless concerts to attend.

There is much to take into consideration with a theatre break to the Big Apple, such as your accommodation, flights to New York and of course, which show you wish to attend. But once you have completed all the relevant planning and preparation, you can relax knowing you are off to discover the Big Apple’s theatre scene.

London Theatre Tickets are one of the most resilient of animals having overcome a multitude of challenges to still reign supreme in the world of entertainment. All we had was theatre tickets for years and years then suddenly there are hundreds and thousands of new kids on the block. Movies, TV, the Internet and computer games all vying for the attention of a public who is being pulled this way and that. But still top shows sell out night after night, and this can really be put down to some great writing and amazing new shows that constantly hit the stage each month and year.

London Theatre – Not All Shows Created Equal…

Some of these shows are really special like Wicked and The Lion King which seem to transcend theatre and plant you in a world of magic and wonder! Other shows don’t hit the public imagination at all and are gone with the wind before they even get started.

The best shows for me start off with a small production touring the county and then get bigger and bigger as word of mouth spreads and causes more and more demand. Most of the time a successful show will run for maybe three years then clever producers will end the run when they see that sales are waning a little. Only to reopen a couple of years later when the public have forgotten they were ever getting jaded. OLIVER! is a great example of that.

You sometimes get really a monster hit like ‘Phantom of the Opera’ that runs for many years and show no sign of loosing pace. AND Mousetrap has now been on for a whopping 50 years!

Your first night in the West End will be a shining life long memory if you’re anything like me, probably you will have a pre-theatre meal at one of the many delicious restaurants spotted around Theatreland. Then make your way with butterflies in your stomach to the theatre and take you seat to the sound of the band tuning up. The first show I ever saw was Oliver at the Palladium and it was marvelous. My sister loved it so much in fact that she made me take her again the very next week. Even though we are all grown up now she still wants to see every show I get tickets for

Take the Kids!

Theatre Tickets can be a very rewarding gift for your children, you just have to look at the excitement in their eyes and see the sheer joy that young people get from good old showbiz. So much of what children consume these days is hurtful and violent, but theater is an altogether more wholesome experience showing the value of hard work, talent and confidence.

With that being said we’ve been going out more and more recently seeing all kinds of shows from all over the world, some great and some not so great but there have of course been our favorites: Sound of music, We will rock you and Billy Elliot all stood out as being far ahead of the competition. My next trip will defiantly be Zorro, what could be better than a mixture of swashbuckling action and gypsy kings music!

In my darker moments I really want to take my wife to Avenue Q as we were both big fans of the Muppets and I’ve herd it absolutely superb, like a total laugh-a-minute wet your pants kind of show. (If a little blue.)

I know that not everyone is going to like every show but I think the key thing is to get out there to keep trying things on for size. If we all stay at home and watch Eastenders every night we’re going to shrivel up and die. (Whoa I’m getting a little spiritual there!)

Theatre is most resilient of animals and none shall overcome…

Opened in 1910 after the old building was burned down, Theatre Royal Windsor is located directly across the road from Windsor Castle. History with regard to this theatre indicates that it was built in the high street in 1793. It was this theatre that was attended by George III when he was residing in the castle and he was provided with spacious armchairs and playbills printed on silk whenever he came to enjoy a play at the theatre. A fire in 1908 resulted in burning down the theatre which resulted in the destruction of main parts of the building. But the theatre lovers were lucky enough that they were able to see the same kind of setting in the new building which was an idea of the owner of the theatre to keep it similar to its old setting.

This theatre boasts of its position as the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain. It is also one of Britain’s leading theatres and is renowned for the quality of productions. Therefore theatre lovers have the luxury of witnessing the newest productions before they are shown in London’s West End and before they tour around the country. The success of this theatre lies on the fact that it launches a range of new schemes for both businesses and regular theatre lovers.

For those of theatre lovers a visit to Theatre Royal Windsor will guarantee a day of maximum entertainment. While you visit this intimate theatre make sure that you find Windsor accommodation at a comfortable Windsor hotel.

Nationally recognized by other theatres, the American Ballet Theatre brings in thousands of people worldwide. Not only do they perform the greatest ballets from all over the world, but they also offer memberships, the ability to donate and/or volunteer. Focused on bringing in the modern element while keeping with tradition at the same time, there have been many artistic directors from the time of the dance company’s launch in 1939, up to the present day.

The most notable contributors to the arts through this type of dance are, of course, the dancers themselves. The American Ballet Theatre has three levels a ballet dancer can be part of: corps de ballet, soloists and principals, who are typically known as the highest ranking dancers. The most recognizable name in this type of dance is Mikhail Baryshnikov, a Russian born dancer, choreographer and actor.

He performed as a principal ballet dancer at this New York City ballet theatre and was artistic director for ten years. In turn, this theatre company has enhanced New York City purely by existing and making its home here. Every year auditions are held here and all over the country as well. While thousands may audition, only the best of the best are chosen to further enhance this ballet troupe.

This New York City theatre offers a variety of classes and workshops for families, children and teachers. Programs for schools are available and professional training is highly sought after with this ballet company. While other ballet theatres take a great, classical ballet performance and change part of it around to make it more modern, the American Ballet Theatre tends to keep with the original concept of classical performances.

Yet, they also look for new ballets and choreographers to expand their performances and entice new audiences. In 2000, this ballet company took their performance to China.

No matter what your reason for your love of this type of dance, the American Ballet Theatre is a focal point throughout the ballet community. But, you need not travel all the way to New York City to discover the theatres full potential. Their website, at “Abt Org”, has everything you’re looking for.

Get information on locations, auditions and classes, as well as to purchase tickets for up and coming performances. For those more interested in becoming a part of the theatre group, the website also offers the opportunity to purchase memberships or donate your time and/or money. With unforgettable performances and extremely talented dancers, who could resist being part of this national ballet company?
